Why Edible Food?

Honestly, I just thought it sounded good.

But when I started looking at what the words mean, I was intrigued.  Edible means fit or able to be eaten. Sure, that makes sense. Food, on the other hand, has multiple meanings. Here a couple:

  1. material consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, and fat used in the body of an organism to sustain growth, repair, and vital processes and to furnish energy.
  2. something that nourishes, sustains, or supplies.
I started thinking about the food we eat these days.  Is most of what eat really food?  Look at those definitions again.  Sure, I suppose most of what we eat generally qualifies as food. It consists of protein, carbs, or fat.  But what else is in your food that doesn't fall into one of those categories?  That doesn't have a category?

And what of those items that don't sustain growth, repair and vital processes?  Some things that we eat do the opposite.  They destroy our bodies.  They deplete us of energy.

Take a look again - are you really eating edible food?
