But when I started looking at what the words mean, I was intrigued. Edible means fit or able to be eaten. Sure, that makes sense. Food, on the other hand, has multiple meanings. Here a couple:
- material consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, and fat used in the body of an organism to sustain growth, repair, and vital processes and to furnish energy.
- something that nourishes, sustains, or supplies.
And what of those items that don't sustain growth, repair and vital processes? Some things that we eat do the opposite. They destroy our bodies. They deplete us of energy.
Take a look again - are you really eating edible food?
